The Indravati river in Chhattisgarh is forceful as it has a high volume of water and has a rocky bed. It drains vast land areas of the state and also contributes to the verdant greenery of its surroundings. The Indravati National Park is a wildlife sanctuary situated on the south and east banks of the river and support a wide range of bio - diversity.The important town of Jagadalpur is situated on the banks of the Indravati River, at about 299 kms from the state's capital Raipur. The entire zone here is especially known for its natural beauty. The Indravati river forms some of the most gorgeous rapids and waterfalls of India that attract tourists from far and wide. The river Indravati falls abruptly from a height of 96 feet in a horse - shoe shape and makes the Chitrakote falls, which is famed as the 'Niagara of India'. The Tirathgarh falls is also located nearby where the Indravati river once again falls 100 feet in a number of huge steps. The waterfall is very famous among the tourists as there are facilities to bathe in the fall. The surrounding areas are also famous and have been the preferred locale for many movies.
